Après Event Décor & Tent Rental — Minnetonka, MN
Named one of America’s top 30 rental companies, Après Event Décor & Tent Rental is dedicated to providing creative event solutions to the Upper Midwest. With nearly 30 years in business, Après had grown to the point of having 3 separate buildings around town and wanted to consolidate them into one space that could serve as a complete base of operations. When they found the space that would fit their needs, it needed some structural changes to really become the company’s new home.
A family business grounded in personal integrity and accountability, architect Paul Dahl says that the best part of the Après project was working with their chairman, Charlie Feldbaum, and his son Michael, who serves as the company’s president. “Michael and Charlie are very genuine people who are easy to work with.”
In the front part of the building, PlanForce helped Après create a 10,000 square foot showroom that gives customers the chance to envision just how spectacular their event will be. Changes included updated space planning, as well as new carpet and finishes throughout. The clerestory windows make the showroom bright and inviting, and the sun-drenched atrium includes live trees and a unique, in-ground koi pond.
Less visible—but no less critical to Après’ success—PlanForce designed and installed 6 new loading docks in the large, 88,000 square foot warehouse space at the back of the building. These new loading docks and overhead doors allow Après to efficiently ship and receive their large inventory of tables, seating, linen, and tabletop décor.
In addition, PlanForce helped make the older building more accessible, meeting new city building requirements, and installing a new venting system for the professional-grade dishwashing stations.
The final result is a spacious and all-inclusive improvement over Après’ prior, “down and dirty” warehouses.
