Associate Interior Designer

PlanForce is searching for an Associate Interior Designer (AID) to join our team of three-dimensional problem-solvers and passionate, results-focused designers. This is an opportunity for the right candidate to dive deep into the unique design challenges of our long-term clients, helping them transform business goals into extraordinary spaces. The AID brings skills in design, communication, technical expertise in systems, standards, and style for how design product is developed and delivered to clients. This is a technical role, but expect to fulfill a variety of obligations and duties every day.

Summary of Position

The AID is responsible for drafting and rendering design concepts worked out in consultation with the project manager and client on a given project. And, the AID must be aware of project budgets and maintain efficient use of time and resources. Comply with design and drafting standards of the firm and client. The AID must demonstrate professional skill, high standards, sound judgement and professionalism while working with others in the firm, clients, and the community.

Major Responsibilities

  • Field survey conditions
  • Program client business, equipment and systems needs
  • Draft, render, draw and/or document designs
  • Investigate and document products and details relevant to the project
  • Investigate and demonstrate new products, finishes and details
  • Assist Client and assemble finish samples for floor, walls, furniture, lighting etc.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with clients
  • Coordinate services of consulting engineers and vendors
  • Perform construction administration duties required by contract
  • Ensure all activities emphasize efficiency, quality assurance, safety, and code compliance
  • Rendering, print, plot, mount
  • Maintain project and time management records as required by the firm.


Interior Designer working toward certification with 3 years’ experience. Ability to self-manage, be efficient in design and drafting, rendering, working knowledge and compliance with firm drafting, software, and archival standards. This position requires dealing with the details of design and documenting project requirements. Maintain a working knowledge of code requirements for the jurisdiction of the project.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design from an accredited college or university.
  • Preferred 3+ years of related experience, with a strong background in commercial office, industrial, retail, repositioning, multi-unit housing, medical office.
  • Competent hand-drawing skills. Advanced computer skills, including Autodesk, Bluebeam, Microsoft Suites and rendering and 3D software.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to quickly share and build trust within PlanForce and the design industry at large.
  • High performer with low ego needs; energetic, enthusiastic, committed, and entrepreneurial.
  • Strong conceptual thinker with the ability to create form in interiors and embrace sound business strategy as applied to effective projects.
  • Capable of generating enthusiasm for best-in-class performance through demonstration of personal passion to be the best in design; present a fresh, forward-looking approach and the willingness, strength of will and vision to act as a change agent.
  • LEED and/or WELL accreditation is highly valued.
  • Experience and understanding the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS)is valued.
